Your wedding day isn’t a performance.
It’s not a checklist.
It’s not a Pinterest board you have to recreate perfectly.
It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chapter and the most beautiful moments often happen in the quiet spaces between the planned ones.
After photographing hundreds of weddings, here’s what I’ve learned (and what I remind my own couples): the more present you are, the more magical your day will feel and the more meaningful your photos become.
Let Go of “Perfect”
Something will go off plan.
A boutonniere will be crooked.
The timeline will shift.
The weather may do its own thing.
And none of that will matter.
What will matter is how it felt to marry your person.
When you release the pressure to control every detail, you make room for laughter, tenderness, and real moments those are the photos you’ll treasure forever.
💡 Mantra for the day:
“I don’t need perfect. I need present.”
Build Breathing Room Into Your Timeline
Rushed couples feel stressed.
Relaxed couples feel connected.
One of the best gifts you can give yourselves is padding in your timeline extra minutes that allow you to:
Actually eat
Hug people without rushing
Take a breath before walking down the aisle
This is why I help every couple build a realistic timeline not one that looks good on paper, but one that feels good in real life.
📌 Pro tip: Add at least 10–15 minutes of buffer time before big moments like the ceremony, first look, or reception entrance.
Do a First Look (If It Feels Right for You)
First looks aren’t for everyone but for many couples, they’re a game changer.
That private moment:
Calms nerves
Grounds you emotionally
Gives you space to just be together
No audience. No expectations. Just the two of you remembering why today matters.
And yes the emotions are still incredibly real.
Assign a “Point Person”
You should not be the one answering questions on your wedding day.
Choose someone you trust a coordinator, bridal party member, or family member to handle:
Vendor questions
Timeline check-ins
Minor issues
Your only job is to experience the day.
If someone asks you something stressful, it’s okay to say:
“Please check with [Name].”
Take Mental Snapshots
At least three times during the day, pause and silently note:
What you see
What you hear
What you’re feeling
Maybe it’s your partner’s hands shaking during vows.
Maybe it’s your grandparents holding hands during dinner.
Maybe it’s the way the music feels during your first dance.
These moments stay with you long after the cake is gone.
Trust Your Vendors
You hired your team for a reason.
Your photographer is watching the light.
Your coordinator is watching the clock.
Your DJ is reading the room.
When you trust your vendors, you free yourself to stay emotionally present instead of mentally managing. (check out this blog on picking the right vendors for you)
(And yes this is one of the reasons I gently guide, reassure, and protect your peace all day long.)
Sneak Away Together
Even five minutes alone can reset everything.
A quiet walk.
A shared drink.
A deep breath together after the ceremony.
Those tiny pauses often become the most cherished memories and some of the most intimate photos of the day.
Remember: The Marriage Matters More Than the Wedding
At the end of the night, what remains isn’t the décor or the schedule.
It’s the way you chose each other.
Years from now, you won’t remember if dinner was five minutes late but you will remember how it felt to be surrounded by love, laughter, and the beginning of your forever.
Your wedding day will pass quickly but when you stay present, it doesn’t disappear.
It settles into your bones.
Into your memories.
Into the story you’ll tell for the rest of your lives.
And I’ll be there quietly capturing it all so you can simply live it.
