LARP isn’t just standing in a field in cool garb.
It’s sprinting in boots.
It’s fighting in armor.
It’s carrying camp gear.
It’s sleeping less than you should.
It’s swinging foam weapons for 20 minutes straight and then doing it again an hour later.
Getting “in shape for LARP” isn’t about abs.
It’s about endurance, resilience, mobility, and recovery.
This guide gives you:
✅ A 30-Day Prep Timeline
✅ 60–90 Day Progressive Options
✅ Training by Type of LARPer
✅ Difficulty Scaling
✅ Realistic expectations for multi-day events
What Are You Training For?
Most LARPs demand:
Walking 5–10+ miles per day
Fighting in bursts
Carrying gear
Squatting, kneeling, standing repeatedly
Reacting quickly
Staying energized across 2–4 days
Your goal isn’t bodybuilder shape.
Your goal is:
“I can play hard all weekend and still enjoy Sunday.”
30-Day LARP Prep Plan (Beginner-Friendly)
This assumes:
You’re not currently training consistently
You want noticeable improvement in 1 month
Weekly Structure (Repeat for 4 Weeks)
3 Strength Days
2 Cardio Days
1 Mobility Day
1 Full Rest Day
Weeks 1–2: Foundation Phase
Focus: Build base stamina + joint resilience
Strength Days (30–40 min)
Bodyweight squats – 3x12
Push-ups (incline if needed) – 3x8–12
Lunges – 3x10 per leg
Plank – 3x30 sec
Resistance band rows – 3x12
Cardio Days (20–30 min)
Brisk walking or incline treadmill
OR light jog/walk intervals
Mobility Day (20 min)
Hip openers
Hamstring stretches
Ankle mobility
Shoulder mobility
💡 Goal: Not dying after 20 minutes of movement.
Weeks 3–4: LARP-Specific Conditioning
Now we simulate event conditions.
Strength (Add Load if Possible)
Goblet squats or weighted squats
Walking lunges
Push-ups (floor)
Bent-over rows
Farmer carries (hold heavy dumbbells & walk)
Add:
3 rounds of:
30 sec high knees
30 sec rest
Cardio Upgrade
30–40 minutes walking/jogging
Add hills if possible
Optional: Combat Simulation
5 rounds:
30 sec fast shadow fighting
30 sec rest
💡 Goal: Recover faster between bursts.
60–90 Day Prep (Higher Difficulty)
If you have 2–3 months before an event:
Month 1 – Base
Same as 30-day plan.
Month 2 – Intensity
Add weighted movements
Increase cardio to 45 min
Add sprint intervals
Practice fighting footwork
Month 3 – Event Simulation
Once per week:
60–90 minute “mock LARP day”
Walk 30 min
5 rounds of combat intervals
Carry weighted pack
Practice kneeling, getting up repeatedly
Train in boots if possible.

By Type of LARPer
Not everyone needs the same prep.

Frontline Fighter (Heavy Combat)
You need:
Leg endurance
Shoulder endurance
Anaerobic bursts
Grip strength
Focus on:
Squats
Deadlifts
Farmer carries
Shoulder presses
Interval sprints
Add:
2x weekly combat simulation
Priority: Recovery speed.
Tank / Armor Wearer
Armor = heat + weight.
Train:
Weighted vest walking
Core stability
Back strength
Heat tolerance (safely)
Add:
Longer steady-state cardio
Extra hydration strategy
Priority: Endurance under load.
Ranged / Agile Skirmisher
You need:
Sprint bursts
Lateral movement
Agility
Train:
Cone drills
Side shuffles
Jump squats
Short sprints
Priority: Fast recovery + footwork.
Casters / Roleplay Heavy
You may not sprint constantly, but you:
Walk constantly
Stand for long periods
Stay up late
Train:
Posture strength
Core
Low-impact cardio
Mobility
Priority: Avoid back/hip pain.
Camp Lead / Logistics Player
You carry gear.
You move supplies.
You sleep less.
Train:
Loaded carries
Squats
Long walks
Grip strength
Priority: Sustainable strength.

Difficulty Scaling

Beginner
Bodyweight only
Walk instead of jog
2–3 training days per week
Intermediate
Add weights
Add intervals
4–5 training days
Advanced
Sprint intervals
Weighted vest
Mock battle sessions
Heat adaptation (safely)
Recovery Is Part of Training
Especially for multi-day events:
Increase daily water intake
Add electrolytes
Practice going to bed earlier
Train your feet (walk in boots)
Strengthen ankles
Your body fails at LARP because of:
Weak ankles
Poor sleep prep
Dehydration
Lack of conditioning
Not because you aren’t “strong.”
Sample Weekly Advanced Template
Monday – Lower Body Strength
Tuesday – Cardio + Intervals
Wednesday – Upper Body + Core
Thursday – Mobility + Light Walk
Friday – Combat Simulation
Saturday – Long Walk / Ruck
Sunday – Rest
Mental Conditioning Matters Too
LARP fatigue is often:
Social overload
Sleep deprivation
Decision fatigue
Train this by:
Limiting doom scrolling
Practicing intentional breaks
Hydrating before thirsty
What Real Progress Looks Like
After 30 days:
Less winded
Less sore
Better posture
More energy Sunday morning

After 90 days:
You recover between fights
You don’t dread hills
Your shoulders don’t burn after 5 minutes
You enjoy combat instead of surviving it

Important
You do not need to be shredded.
You need to be:
Capable
Durable
Recoverable
The strongest LARPers aren’t the biggest.
They’re the ones still smiling on day three

Pre-Event Readiness Score
Rate your prep (0–10) and check a few yes/no items. Your score helps you decide whether to push training, adjust packing, or prioritize recovery before game day.
1) Rate Your Readiness (0–10)
2) Yes/No Boosters
What this means
- Move the sliders and check the boxes to get a tailored readout.
Quick Actions
Pass threshold: 80%+ (ready to play hard). If you’re below 80%, focus on your lowest category first.
LARP Fitness Self-Assessment Calculator
Enter what you can do today (no ego reps). This calculator estimates how prepared your body is for typical LARP demands: walking, bursts of combat, carrying gear, and repeated kneeling/standing.
Step 1 — Pick your playstyle (adjusts weighting)
Step 2 — Enter your baseline numbers
Step 3 — Event reality checks (optional but useful)
Your weak links (fix these first)
- We’ll list the 2–3 lowest categories.
Suggested 7-day micro-plan
- Fill in the calculator to generate a mini plan.
How to read this score
65–79% = playable, but you’ll fatigue early (train weak links).
<65% = build base first (stamina + legs + core + feet).
