Looking for Hocking Hills engagement photos? This romantic forest engagement session captures Carly & Matt’s story before their September 20th wedding in Ohio.

Some sessions feel like an adventure.

Not the loud, chaotic kind but the steady, grounded kind where you just keep moving forward together.

That’s exactly what Carly and Matt’s engagement session in Hocking Hills felt like.

They’re getting married on September 20th, and this session felt like a reflection of that strong, connected, and rooted in something real.

Couple embracing and laughing in front of a waterfall, man kissing woman on the cheek outdoors.
A joyful couple embraces near a waterfall, the woman smiling broadly in a cozy sweater while hugging her partner outdoors.

Out in the Woods, Just Them

Hocking Hills has a way of doing its own thing.

The cliffs, the trees, the light cutting through the woods it doesn’t need much help. And honestly, neither did Carly and Matt.

They didn’t show up trying to be anything other than themselves.

Just:

Walking the trails together

Talking like they always do

Falling into those quiet, familiar rhythms

It never felt like a “photoshoot.”

It felt like I was just tagging along on one of their days.

The Way They Are Together

There’s something really easy about them.

No overthinking.

No trying too hard.

Just small moments that say everything:

The way Matt pulls her in without hesitation

The way Carly lights up when she looks at him

The quiet pauses where neither of them needs to say anything

Those are always the moments that matter most

Letting the Day Unfold

And somewhere in between all of that, their story just… unfolded.

That’s the thing about sessions like this when you give people space, they stop thinking about the camera.

And that’s when it becomes real.

A happy couple holds hands and smiles at each other while walking on a bridge surrounded by trees.

Looking Ahead to September 20th

This session feels like the calm before something really exciting.

September 20th is coming up, and I already know it’s going to be full of energy, people, movement all the big moments that come with a wedding day.

But this?

This was the quiet version of their story.

The steady part.

The foundation.

And it makes what’s coming next feel even more meaningful.

If your idea of an engagement session looks more like this

walking trails, getting a little lost, just being together

you’re not alone.

And honestly?

Those are some of my favorite stories to tell.
