A Stress-Free, Magical Start to Your Wedding Day

Your wedding morning sets the tone for your entire day. Whether you’re sipping mimosas with your besties, listening to your favorite playlist, or channeling your inner fantasy queen in a hotel suite how you prepare matters.

As a wedding photographer who’s captured hundreds of mornings with brides, grooms, and wedding parties, I’ve seen what creates smooth, joyful vibes… and what sends couples into panic-mode.

This guide gives you my top Getting Ready tips plus a complete packing list so you (and your people!) feel calm, confident, and fully prepared the morning of your wedding.

Set the Scene for a Magical Morning

Choose a Space With Good Light

Natural light = chef’s kiss.

It helps your makeup artist, and it helps me capture gorgeous detail photos and candid moments.

If you’re getting ready in:

A hotel suite → choose the window side of the room

A church → request the best-lit bridal room

Your home → declutter a small area near a window

Keep the Room (Somewhat) Tidy

No one expects perfection, but having a “designated chaos corner” helps keep photos beautiful.

Pick one table or one corner for:

Bags

Food

Phones

Water bottles

Clothes and hangers

Everything else? Clear and clean = stress-free.

Create a Getting Ready Playlist

Music boosts the mood fast.

Romantic? Hype? Nerdy? Taylor Swift? D&D tavern music? Choose your vibe.

Assign 1–2 “Runner” People

These lovely souls fetch things so you don’t have to move:

Bobby pins

Water

Snacks

Missing bridesmaid

Your mom

It’s a game-changer.

Timing Tips Your Future Self Will Thank You For

Plan a Buffer

Everything takes longer on a wedding day. Add:

15 minutes for hair

15 minutes for makeup

20 minutes for getting dressed

Boom. You now have breathing room.

Eat (Seriously)

You don’t have to eat a feast just eat something.

A sandwich tray, fruit, granola bars, and water will keep your body and brain functioning for the marathon ahead.

Start Hair & Makeup Early

A good rule of thumb:

→ Bride starts 45–60 minutes before the rest of the party.

You want to be finishing up as I arrive for detail photos—not rushing the glam.

Give Your Photographer 20-30 Minutes for Details

This is where I capture:

Comfortable + cute = perfect.

Great options:

Avoid anything tight on your skin those marks will show in photos for a while.
